Recently, colleagues in GIS groups inquired about vector data for global time zone boundaries. While I hadn't previously worked in this specific area, I researched and found a relatively accurate dataset worth sharing.

Initially, I checked China's Standard Map Service website but discovered no officially published national standard time zone data:

After exploring public resources, I identified a suitable dataset on GitHub.

Dataset Overview

Sample visualization:

Source: https://github.com/treyerl/timezones
Coordinate System: EPSG:4326 (WGS 84)
Format: QGIS project file (originally for QGIS 2.8; automatically upgrades in newer versions)

Data Download

For users without GitHub access, I've packaged the dataset:

File: Global_Timezones.7z
Link: https://pan.baidu.com/s/1lCE80m8UgzW2xFdZfiOyxg
Code: a7jv
Unzip Password: malagis.com

Data Limitations

The dataset contains two significant inaccuracies:

  1. Southern Tibet region
  2. Nansha Islands area

Critical Notice:
If using this data, you MUST manually correct these boundary inaccuracies.

Additional Notes

As no authoritative domestic time zone dataset exists, corrections require manual editing. If you possess more accurate official data, please share it in the comments.
