The other day, while casually browsing in the MalGIS community chat, a friend @Tiantian suddenly asked me, "Does ArcGIS Pro 3.6 not support Windows 10 anymore?" This sudden question gave me a fright. After all, many friends following MalGIS should still be on Windows 10, some even on Windows 7. If there were such an issue, it should have surfaced earlier. However, when the friend later showed me the evidence, I couldn't be sure for a moment.

Official Statement

We checked the official website statement:

https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/get-started/arcgis-pro-system-requirements.htm

It clearly states Windows 11 Home, Pro, and Enterprise (64-bit). Although support for Windows 10 ended on October 14, 2025, the author reasoned that, theoretically, since they are both x64 systems and can install the .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.0, ArcGIS Pro 3.6 should also be installable. Moreover, if it didn't support Windows 10, there should have been more feedback given its release period.

But even the official SDK explicitly states support for Windows 11 versions, with no mention of Windows 10.

Actual Verification

Speculation is useless, so let's verify it in practice. The author currently doesn't have a Windows 10 machine available, so we asked @Tiantian to help with testing. After a long wait, the result was as expected: after installing the .NET 8 framework, ArcGIS Pro 3.6 installed and ran normally.

PS: Currently, only the installation of ArcGIS Pro 3.6 on a Windows 10 system has been tested. It is unclear whether other related development kits support Windows 10. Friends with the means can also test this and are welcome to provide feedback.

Summary

A small speculation: ArcGIS Pro 3.6 was released in November 2025, while Windows 10 stopped receiving updates and mainstream support in October 2025. To continue receiving security updates, one must purchase Extended Security Updates (ESU). Therefore, ArcGIS Pro 3.6, released around this time, indeed doesn't need to document support for an operating system that is no longer in mainstream support. This also helps avoid certain legal risks.

However, for users, if you insist on using Windows 10, it seems there's no immediate problem with installation based on current tests. But to be safe, if your computer is connected to the internet, it's better to upgrade to Windows 11 as soon as possible. After all, an unsupported system carries higher risks, right? (I know some organizations still use Windows 7, even XP.)

What operating system are you currently using? Can you install the new version of ArcGIS Pro normally? Feel free to leave a comment and discuss!
